ALL WELCOME
Members of the STEAM club this week harvested and enjoyed the first crops of strawberries grown in our hydroponic system. The year 9 students from the STEAM club are investigating how we could help create a sustainable future. Together with the help of Mr Frape in DT, the students built a hydroponic system which uses 90 percent less water than conventional methods of growing plants. The system does not use any soil and is self-sustaining via a solar powered pump.
At the moment, there are strawberries, three different types of lettuce, pak choi, choy sum and jade plants being grown. We hope that going forward next year, we will be able to experiment with more varieties of fruit and vegetables as well as flowering plants to attract bees.
If you would like to know more about this and any other STEAM activities, please contact Miss La (tla@worthinghigh.net)
