Careers update to Year 10 students

You are all now well aware that school learning and its provision of resources has changed dramatically and you would normally have been attending school in person rather than a virtual world.

Year 10 College Options

An important part of the normal summer term whilst you are in Year 10, is the preparation for your final year at WHS in Year 11, when you will have to begin considering your Post 16 College and Further Education route.

In the past those choices have to be made ideally prior to the end of the Autumn term for Year 11 students,, but each college has their own deadlines for Applications and the opportunity to gain your preferred choice of course & college is more likely the earlier the application is received.  Some colleges do still consider applications during the spring term.

We are always very keen to invite as many Colleges to WHS to promote their establishments during assemblies, drop-in sessions and our annual Careers Fair normally held in November.

This gives students and parents/carers the opportunities to ask questions and obtain information in order to make the important choices.

The Colleges themselves always hold a number of Open days so that students and parents/carers can attend to see the range of subjects and offers and meet the tutors involved in delivering those subjects.

The Careers Department at WHS would also be at school to support and discuss those options and would normally do this on a 1:1 basis during the autumn term. Hopefully we will still be able to do this when we return to school.

In the meantime it’s very important and an ideal opportunity for each of you to look at the websites of colleges that are local to WHS and that previous students have moved onto. There will be other colleges that you are of course able to consider, so please take the opportunity to look at those as well.

I have listed those below for you, together with any links to promotional videos they have offered and although the courses shown on their websites are for 2020, it will give you a very good insight into each of the colleges and what they offer students.
